The history of Punjab still remains untold. 71 years of Independence and we are still unaware of a number of movements and martyrs that were responsible for our freedom. A number of times history has been suppressed but cinema never fails to inform and aware the masses. A few days ago, we informed our readers of an upcoming Punjabi film which will mark the entry of Hema Malini as a producer in Punjabi film industry. The official poster of this film titled Mitti: Virasat Babbaran di has been shared by its team.

The film has been written by Lakhwinder Kandola who will also be playing one of the characters in this film. This film will be directed by Hriday Shetty who is a Bollywood film-maker. He has directed films Chaalis Chaurasi, Godfather: The Legend Continues, Pyaar Mein Twist, and Daag- Shades of Love. The producer of this film Sanjay Bali is also a well-known name having in his bags the critically acclaimed film Masoom. The music is by Mr. Wow. Apart from Kandola, Jagjeet Sandhu and a number of other actors also will be seen in this film. The shoot of this film will commence next month onwards.

From the title and first poster of the film, it is evident that it will be based on the Babbar Akalis who rose against the Britishers and the exploitation that was done in India on their part. A number of cruelties had led to the formation of this group, some of them being the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, Rowlatt Act, and the inhuman and brutal killing of innocent Indians. The Babbars had then taken it to be their responsibility to free the nation of the imperialism imposed upon us by the British. Freedom was their dream and freedom was their struggle.

In the first look poster of Mitti, we can make out a large army of red uniformed Britishers marching towards a single Sikh man, clad in the traditional attire of an initiated and armoured Sikh. The exact role of Jagjeet Sandhu has not been shared yet but we hope more information regarding this movie will be revealed soon. The story of Babbars has often been found deleted from the pages of history. How well their story will be depicted on screen will be known only once the film gets released on March 1, 2019.
